Persimmon Place

Dublin, California

Regency Centers, a national leader in the development and management of retail properties, developed a sleek new shopping center in Dublin, California. The partnership of FOG Studio and Mark Davis Design was selected to design a “Fresh Look” for all the outdoor amenities and signage. Our design launched off a new branding effort by hdsf which dubs the new center Persimmon Place –

a branding package which positions the center as “upscale, convenient and smart” and which extols the virtues of fruit and nature here in the “culinary capital of the nation”.

We seized on a photo of a cut persimmon fruit as inspiration. The cut fruit reveals a beautiful radial pattern that we’ve woven through many of the design elements throughout the Center: paving patterns, light standards, boundary walls –

even cables in low railings. The radiant persimmon color also punctuates major nodes, such as a large people-watching plaza defined by a sinuous wooden bench. And we were inspired by the rolling hills west of Dublin to create topographical features on the site that are crisply bound by weathering steel plates.
