San Francisco Village

San Francisco, California

San Francisco Village is a nonprofit whose mission is to enrich the lives of older San Franciscans “by providing them with the community, connections and expertise they need to stay in charge of their lives.” The organization had been sharing space since its inception, but having grown in membership significantly, SF Village secured a tenant space - the ground floor of a former realtor’s office, badly in need of a refresh and an ADA upgrade.

FOG was approached by  Community Vision to shepherd the renovation; we worked closely with SF Village staff and the selected contractor, CoBuild, to optimize funding that was realized via grants from Community Vision as well as various nonprofit and community funding sources.

New finishes include carpet planks that morph subtly in shade from the open areas to the private rooms. The organic grays and rusts of the carpets are offset by a fine-grained walnut wallcovering that denotes the conference room volume. A punchy orange paint enlivens the doors, offset by ocean-blue accents on the office and columns.

Staff open offices and the director’s office front the park across beautiful Fulton Street. The dilapidated kitchenette has been converted to a mini-cafe where patrons can socialize. Via selective demolition of many interior partitions, the space now accommodates a flexible member-programs area that can accommodate dozens of participants in activities that vary from crafts to yoga to parties. Other offices were combined to allow for an 18-person conference room, where the dedicated board of directors can meet and plan for an even more exciting future for this wonderful organization.
