TheaterLab Multi-Use Pavilion

Livermore, California

SPARC (Shakespeare & Performing Arts Regional Company) is a dynamic, nonprofit organization serving thousands of artists and patrons in the Livermore Valley and greater Bay Area: a theater company with a mission of “Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion”. After many years operating from temporary and leased conditions, SPARC had an opportunity to form a partnership with the City of Livermore to develop a multi-use theater and public performance space in a new “Cultural Core” on a disused city-owned parcel.

FOG Studio has shepherded SPARC through an extensive feasibility study, a conceptual building design, preliminary cost estimates, and schematic planning submittals. The building has been worked out via a complicated set of relationships with a new park fronting the theater, new emergency vehicle access, public street and parking structure, and a proposed science museum on the northern part of this Cultural Core.

Historic Livermore architectural elements will juxtapose playful, inclusive site elements and a spacious glazed lobby offering indoor-outdoor performance synergies. A large roof deck with warming kitchen and restooms offers rental income opportunities, while a concessions area is accessible to park-goers and science-museum goers, as well as Theater patrons.
