Girl Scout House

Benicia, California

A site on a rare East J Street bluff in Benicia California, occupied many years ago by the local Girl Scouts troop, will be the new home for a an industrial modern spread.  Planning for the new house centers around a future lap pool with courtyard entry, the site approach winds around the rear of the site affording the new structure a perfect spot at the prow of the hillside.

The L-shaped home design mixes industrial aesthetic with age old construction technique, sheltering the pool from the southwest winds.  The open floor plan with clear span spaces will have exposed concrete, walls clad in smooth white cement plaster and char-coaled wood with stained cedar accents.

The Owner’s avid interest in solar energy sets the project’s goals high, as a Net Zero Energy home with no connection to the grid.  Anticipated completion Spring of 2019.
